Robust Coordination Scheme for Microgrids Protection Based on the Rate of Change of Voltage

The wide application of microgrid concept leads to challenges for the traditional protection distribution networks because changes in short circuit level and network topology during two modes operation. This paper proposes a promising solution these problems by offering new coordination scheme not affected variation or topology. proposed is based on local measurements at relay location with low sampling frequency computing rate change fundamental voltage (ROCOV) detect different fault types, identify faulty zone accurately guarantee robust between primary backup relays. can be achieved optimizing either settings characteristic (time dial setting pickup value) four setting, parameters that control shape (A & B)). extensively tested using MATLAB simulations modified IEEE 14 bus meshed embedded synchronous/inverter-based distributed generation units under variations operating conditions levels both grid-connected islanded results confirm maintain relays locations, types topologies.
